FAQ and Growing Dahlias
This page aims to answer common questions and give a brief overview of growing dahlias. Everyone develops their own method, but this is just the basics.
Ordering & Availability
1. How many tubers come in one order?
Each item listed is sold per individual tuber, unless otherwise stated. Tuber size can range from a single tuber to a small clump.
2. When will my order ship?
All dahlia tubers ship in early spring (April) to ensure safe transit and planting success.
Local pickup orders will be contacted to schedule an exact date.
3. Can I reserve tubers early?
Yes. Placing an order through the website automatically reserves your tubers. High-demand varieties may sell out quickly.
4. Do you offer local pickup?
Yes. Local pickup in Delhi, Ontario is available. At checkout, select Local Pickup.
If you accidentally paid for shipping, you may receive in-store credit or a partial refund.
Quality & What to Expect
5. Will my tuber have eyes?
Every tuber shipped is inspected and confirmed to have at least one viable growth eye unless sold as a clump.
6. What size are the tubers?
Tuber size varies by variety, but all tubers meet our standard: healthy, firm, disease-free, and capable of producing a full plant.
7. Do tubers produce multiple tubers for future years?
Yes. A single tuber planted in spring will typically yield 3–8 new tubers by fall under normal growing conditions.
8. What if my tuber doesn’t sprout?
Contact us within 30 days of receiving your order with photos. We offer store credit or replacement when available.
Shipping & Packaging
9. How are tubers packaged?
Tubers are shipped in protective, breathable packaging with a winter-safe medium to maintain firmness.
Each order is labeled clearly with variety names.
10. Do you ship outside Ontario/Canada?
We currently only ship within Canada.
(subject to change in the future)
11. What if my tracking says “Delivered” but I didn’t receive anything?
Check with neighbours and your local post office first. If still unresolved, contact us immediately with your tracking number and order details.
Varieties & Plant Performance
12. Are these your own varieties or well-known ones?
We offer a mix of:
• Popular cut-flower varieties
• High-performing specialty dahlias
We plan on offering some of our own VH exclusive varieties a few years down the road.
13. Are the colours accurate to the photos?
Photos represent expected colour and form, but dahlias can vary with climate, soil, and growing conditions.
Guarantees, Returns & Problems
14. What if my tuber arrives damaged?
Send a photo soon after receiving it. Damaged tubers will be replaced or credited.
15. Do you accept returns?
Because tubers are perishable, we do not accept returns, but we always make it right in cases of damage or non-viability.
16. What if a variety I ordered becomes unavailable?
Rarely, a stored tuber may fail inspection during spring sorting.
You will receive an immediate refund or replacement option.
Growing & Care
17. How do I store my tubers until planting?
Keep them in a cool, dark place (5–10°C).
More information to come in the dahlia growing guide.
18. When should I plant my dahlias?
Plant outdoors once soil reaches 12°C and all danger of frost has passed. For most of Ontario, this is mid-May.
19. Do you offer growing advice?
Yes. We provide quick-start planting instructions and support if you need help diagnosing early-season issues.
